"Angel Franny" (2013)

"Angel Franny"

Little white hat, little white gloves,
You stood there waiting for a sign from above,
But when nothing happened nor fell from the sky,
There was nothing to do but cry, cry, cry.
He couldn’t help you, that wasn’t his style.
Just figured it’d pass if he gave it awhile,
When that didn’t happen he left you alone,
Thought Mama’ll fix this and got on the phone.
Suitcase in hand, shoes still on,
Barely crossed the threshold,
Angel Franny, you should’ve run,
Cause what you had there was gold.
So Mama told you it’d be okay,
All of it had been just for this day,
A whole lotta talk with nothing to tell,
If only she knew how far you fell.
Seemed like yesterday you were just a girl,
With dollies and dreams, ribbons and curls,
They couldn’t tell you a damn bit of true,
Oh oh sweet Franny, what’d they do to you?
Suitcase in hand, shoes still on,
Barely crossed the threshold,
Oh Angel Franny, why didn’t you run?
They didn’t deserve your gold.
The years floated by on his drift-away ship,
So much color and kisses he drained from your lips,
All of the girls in all of those ports,
Hopefully learned what the new world hath wrought.
Little white gloves and your little white hat,
You don’t need to feel any shame in that,
Franny in my head, Franny in my heart,
A limb, a connection, a forever part.
